Washing your items

The good news is that wool is anti-microbial and only needs washing sparingly. You can spot clean with a damp cloth when necessary and hang up regularly to air. When needed I hand wash with a drop of leave in wool wash. I like Eucalan. This keeps the fibres soft and supple. I usually only wash once every few months like so:

– Start by filling a bowl with cold/tepid water.
– Add a splash of leave in wool wash (make sure to do this after you’ve filled your bowl so not too many suds are created). I use Eucalan.
– Leave the item to soak for a few minutes, you can gently swish your item in the water a few times, do not agitate too much to avoid risk of felting.
– Lay your knit/yarn flat on a towel and roll it, gentle press to remove excess water.
– Lay your knit flat and let it air dry.

Unwinding your skein so it’s ready for using

All my yarns are sent wound in a skein (unless otherwise stated). Make sure to wind it into a ball before you use it, otherwise you will end up in a mighty tangle (i’ve been there!) Here’s how to do it by hand:

– Untwist the skein
– Wrap it around something to prevent it tangling. The back of a chair, your knees, perhaps you could ask someone to hold it for you.
– Cut the cotton ties, you will find 4/5 along the length of the skein.
– Find a loose end and hand wind into a ball
– Your yarn is ready!

Hand wind all art yarns, for finer yarns you could use a ball winder if you have one.
