Description

More about this yarn..
This chunky handspun art yarn is one of a kind, made from 2 of my art batts with added fabric scraps and wool locks for a super fun and textured spin. These style yarns have a natural fuzzy halo, they are next to skin soft and completely itch free.
I carefully source and blend certain varieties of wool, which don’t pile as readily as other natural woollen yarns. They beautifully fuzz as they are worn, due to the kid mohair, you can trim your project if necessary using sharp scissors to help keep them looking tidy.

This is a single-ply yarn with defined bursts of colourful texture, giving it a variegated, almost scrappy look when knitted (see photo for examples). Spinning as a single ply means you get more length for your £££.

I designed these yarns specifically for large garments, although they will work for any project. I wanted a chunky yarn that was quick and easy to knit, full of texture, light and squishy, but also hold its shape when knitted. They would also be awesome for weaving (wefts), chunky crochet.. amongst many other possibilities!

Recommended needle/hook size- 8mm-15mm
These yarns teeter between a chunky/super chunky, with an average WPI of 6/7. Because of their texture and variation I would use these yarns like a commercial super chunky. For me 10-12mm seems to be the sweet spot, though you can experiment outside of this of course. Hand spun yarns tend to work best when knit on larger needles than the same weights of commercially spun wool. Knitting in this way also makes the yarn go further. Just remember the smaller the needle size the denser the fabric.

How much yarn will you need?
One of my most asked questions is how many skeins of yarn you will need for a chosen project. This is going to depend on specific factors; the skein size, your needles choice, your own tension and the size you want your piece to be.

If your planning to follow a written pattern
These yarns work well as super chunky alternative for any pattern, so firstly make sure your pattern calls for a super chunky yarn. You could try using as a chunky alternative, for a denser knit, which may work well for something small like a hat, or mitts. Then check the length of these yarns against your pattern requirements and order as necessary, (remember to swatch to avoid disappointment!)

If your planning to design your own garment
This is intended as a veryyy rough guide only, based on my own knits.

– 4/5 skeins for a slightly cropped loose style jumper in a size M (on 15mm needles)
– half a skein – 1 skein for a small item such as a pair of hand warmers, leg warmers, a cowl or a skinny scarf (on 8-12mm needles)
– 1 skein for an adult sized hat (on 8-12mm needles)
– 7 Skeins for a long cardigan (15mm needles)
– 1 or 2 skeins for a generously sized scarf

Crochet uses slightly more yarn than knitting so I would order a little more for your design just to be safe.
For weaving you can weave a whole scarf with 1 or 2 skeins as a weft, depending on width and length. These yarns aren’t strong enough for a warp.

If the amount you need isn’t available, message me here to arrange a custom order.

— Kindly Note —

The nature of single ply yarns means a breakage may occur, especially when crocheting as the hook naturally untwists the yarn as you work. I have experimented a lot to find just the right amount of twist to give a single ply enough strength without being unbalanced. Any over-twists will naturally correct when worked up. If you find a breakage does occur you can just re-tie with a knot and carry on.

-All photos are unedited and taken in natural light. I try my best to accurately portray colours through a variety of shots, but of course there may be slight variations –
